Getting Rid Of Unwanted Trash

When it comes to keeping your home and yard immaculate, few things are quite as important as garbage removal. It can be overwhelming to deal with the incredible influx of trash that you can accumulate during various parts of the year, which is one of the reasons that working with a sanitation company is so crucial. I started focusing more seriously on getting rid of unwanted trash for my business several years ago, and it made an incredible difference. This blog is here to help you to decide on the sanitation features that would benefit your business the most and how you can improve your company.

Items That You Shouldn't Put in a Dumpster Rental

Dumpster rental companies have a strict policy on what should go in their dumpsters. If you plan on renting a dumpster, get to know what's not allowed in the dumpster. This way, you won't have to argue with the dumpster rental companies. Luckily, this write-up contains a list of items you can't throw in a dumpster rental.

Batteries

All states except California allow people to throw regular batteries (button cell, 9 Volt, AA, AAA, C, and D) in dumpster rentals. However, you are not allowed to dump the following type of batteries in a dumpster:

  • Rechargeable
  • Phone
  • Dry-cell
  • Car battery
  • GPS navigation

If you are not sure whether the batteries you have can go in a dumpster rental, call the rental company and ask.

Hazardous Materials

Dumpster rental companies are very strict on throwing hazardous materials in a dumpster. But which products fall under this category?

  • Asbestos
  • Motor oil
  • Automotive fluids
  • Pesticides
  • Medical waste products
  • Contaminated soil

These items are not only a danger to the environment but also to the people responsible for handling your trash. That explains why dumpster rental companies advise clients not to throw them in the dumpster.

Tires

If you have some tires you want to discard, consider recycling them or sending them to a tire dealership or an auto part store. Dumpster rental companies are against clients throwing tires in their bins because they will have nowhere to dispose of them. Surprisingly, tires take a long time to break down and can trap gasses, which explains why landfills don't accept old tires.

Paint and Inflammable Items

Paint and inflammable items are also not allowed in dumpster rental containers. So, if you have some leftover paint, don't be tempted to throw it in the dumpster. Paints contain a high amount of chemicals and oil that can hurt the environment. Besides, oil and lead-based paints contain mercury and lead, thus making them unsuitable for landfills. Other items that don't belong in a dumpster rental include solvents and paint thinners.

Oil and Gas

Petroleum-based products such as lawnmower fluids, gasoline, lubricants, and motor oil are serious safety hazards. As such, they should be discarded at special facilities instead of being thrown in a dumpster. Dumping them in a dumpster is considered illegal as they are highly combustible. Additionally, propane tanks are also not allowed in dumpster containers.

Other prohibited items include:

  • Fertilizer
  • Pesticides
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Spray cans
  • Hot water tanks
  • Roofing shingles
  • Mattresses
